What will you be wearing this spring and summer? Honestly, as a working mum of two girls (18 months and 5 ¾) most of the time I just feel lucky to make it out of the door 10 minutes late with clean hair and no food on me!! But that does not mean I don’t want to look good and be up to date with the latest trends.

Well help is at hand, we have scoured the fashion pages on your behalf and compiled the most versatile and exciting top 5 trends of the Spring / Summer 2016 season. No hard work needed: be inspired and enjoy fashion.

No. 1. The Bomber

I love a bomber, I remember my first bomber - Army and Navy green, bright orange lining - loved it. Well they are back again and a little bit more finessed (you will be glad to hear). Now they create the perfect spring cover-up and add a sporty edge to any outfit. According to the experts it really is the must have item for next season...now where is that green bomber with the orange lining!!!

Aren't they beautiful (I certainly wouldn't take any of them to Glastonbury) but you will be pleased to know there are also a wide variety of wonderful options on the high street in an array of colours, fabrics and prints, here are four of our favourites (loving the Adidas range and more print options if you want to take a closer look at this bomber).

No. 2. Blue Jean Baby

By popular demand jeans are back! Ok, not sure they were ever away. In fact, did you know that anthropologists estimate that, every day, 1 in 2 people in the world pull on a pair of jeans, which makes denim the most popular textile ever woven.

Nevertheless, the good old jean is totally on trend but this time it's with a 90's twist, wide leg, comfortable and carefree. Head to toe denim is big too, as is patchwork, embroidery and long skirts. Basically most things, as long as it's a relaxed look and made of jean. To be totally on trend make sure you show off your ankles, as the wide leg jean is frequently cropped for a summer feel.

A few of our favourite more reasonably priced options just for you.

No. 3. Modern Stripes

You won't have to go to Brittany this spring and summer to feel welcomed in head to toe stripes. Stripes are big, small, diagonal, any which way you can imagine. Personally, I think this is great news, we all have stripes in our wardrobe, so it's another one where we can re-work and revitalise a few old favourites and maybe splash out on an extra special one as a treat. Talking about special, I adore the off the shoulder option by Salatore Ferragamo. Although not in our top 5, off the shoulder and ruffles are also on trend for S/S16, so keep them in mind whilst filtering out your wardrobe for the season ahead.

High Street is really keeping up with this trend, lots of options in almost every store. I particularly like the shirt by & Other Stories, as the stripes are multicoloured, include a sugary soft pink (on trend), whilst cleverly balancing it out with a bolder green and blue.

No. 4. Sparkle Notion

Okay, so admittedly we don’t expect you to be parading around in sequin gowns everyday but there’s no harm adding a little bit of sparkle to your spring look. By combining sequins with denim or sweat fabrics you can create the perfect mix of casual glam. You can also add metallics to this trend, as they are both dominant this S/S. Here’s a few our designer and high street faves.

 No 5. Wild Thing

The animal print is back for Spring 2016, and that’s fine by us! We like a bit of animal glamour to add spice to our look and we are particularly enjoying the abundance of zebra and leopard prints seen on the runways this season ( my 5 year old is a huge fan of Marty the zebra from Madagascar, so she will love mummy in this one too) .

Nowadays, in my fourth decade, it's unlikely I will be heading out in head to toe wildness (although the Top Shop dress looks really good) so great to see the high street is getting clever and mixing print with a range of fabrics to create a more wearable look, whatever your age.

So that's it, our top 5! We have had lots of fun putting this together and now feel inspired and ready for the season ahead.  We hope you feel inspired too and for extra help head over to our Spring Summer Pinterest boards: Designer & High Street. We will also be following up with a fun blog about the ones that did not make the list and why..... it reveals the crazy side of fashion and why it's not always best to follow every trend!!
